Does traditional education set students up for success in today’s ever-changing world? Plenty of thought leaders, from Seth Godin to Sir Ken Robinson, have gone to great lengths to show that the current system hasn’t changed for decades and is still preparing students to be efficient factory workers. Today’s world values creativity and courage, innovation and implementation. But much of our system is still focused on training for compliance, obedience and following the status quo.

Melbourne High School is arguably Australia’s most ‘successful’ school. But that depends on what definition of ‘success’ you are looking at. ATAR scores are through the roof and students are getting into courses like medicine, law and engineering that are putting them on the path to traditional ‘success’. But that path isn’t ‘success’ to everyone. I wanted to go out and find Old Boys that did things their own way, that tried to do something different, that had a crack, that backed themselves, and that ultimately achieved their own definition of success. I’ve compiled the stories of these successful entrepreneurial Old Boys in my book, ‘MHS Entrepreneurs’. I took a look at their journey, and along the way dissected what they did, how they did it, and how you can do it too.
